Prices are higher in real life than what is listed here. Like 50% higher for some things. Waiter said they redid their menu recently
Ceviche was dry and none of our food was flavorful, the drinks were bad. We were served by teenagers and they actually forgot to take our food order for like 30 mins after we ordered appetizers.
The view was nice but I just wouldn't bother.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 18, 2016
This location of Costa Azul is in the heart of Downtown Coronado. A block away from 2 public transit bus lines & a five minute walk from the courtesy shuttle pick up/ drop off location for Loew's Coronado Resort guests at Adella & Orange Ave.
For a Saturday evening, Costa Azul didn't have the hectic 45 minute to an hour wait time (for a table for two) at 7pm. And we were lucky to have our choice of seating at either a four top table or a booth! Score!
There were plenty of outside tables available too! Lol
It's been a few years since we've dined here & I do recall Costa Azul's good quality food for a very reasonable price.
I was in limbo between the Carnitas Ole or the Chicken Alfredo. And decided to get the Chicken Alfredo dish.
According to the menu description: Chicken
Alfredo: homemade garlic (I think) Alfredo sauce, chicken, mushrooms, poblano chiles, & side of garlic bread.
I noticed most of the poblano chiles were not sautéed thoroughly. They were diced in big cuts perhaps thrown on the grill or pan for a mere second and placed on the plate. This is exactly how I felt about the mushrooms. Um, they seriously looked like they were just cut from the stem & the caps were sliced. There was no indication from the color of the mushroom slices that they were even slapped on the grill or pan. I'm a lover of sautéed / grilled veggies & I was always under the assumption that when included in a pasta dish- the veggies would be sautéed correctly. They weren't for my dish.
The Alfredo sauce was creamy & thick. Loved it! Wish there'd be more of a garlic UMMPH to it. But, very delicious!
The garlic bread! Yes! These slices were perfect! The bread wasn't SATURATED w/ the garlic butter like most places. And there are red chili flakes on the bread! Tasted so good & went well w/ smearing the Alfredo sauce.
The chicken. Actual chicken! Not the pre packaged/ pre "grilled" chicken you can
But. You know, the ones w/ the infamous grill marks on the breast? And they have that taste?
Our server, forgot her name, was attentive & friendly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Yvonne C.San Diego, CA13554701861Dec 4, 2017
We were super hungry, they didn't want to go off the island, sister in law is from Minnesota and doesn't eat meat; so there was no way of me persuading my family there are better options. Hey, why listen to me, I only have lived in San Diego since 2008, what do I know?
I will say the service was good, anyone that can deal with several questions about the food and special requests because we have two picky Carbatarians in tow gets a high-five.
The food was "El Torito chain style", which I don't care for, boring and predictable, the shrimp cocktail was such a big fat NO!
Protip: Could be a good place to take your white, out-of-town friends for cocktails and chips n'salsa. At night they do have live bands during the weekend where people are dancing with their Hawaiian shirts and botox.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 10, 2017
Love this places from past experiences I know the lobster burrito is Amazing! I love sitting at the bar and having chips and salsa. Being vegan there is not a ton for me to eat here on the menu but the staff has always been great at making concoctions for me. The staff is friendly and personable every time we go!

Picked this spot randomly for lunch. Just OK. Ambiance/service won over food in the end.
+ Really friendly service.
+ Ample seating (indoor and outdoor). We sat outside and it was really nice.
+ Plenty of menu options.
+ Offered healthy options (skinny swordfish tacos with lettuce instead of tortillas).
+ They had this awesome green honey salsa that they made in-house... ask for it!
- The coconut shrimp was waaaaaaay too greasy.
- The skinny swordfish tacos were nothing special.
- Boyfriend's burrito was decent but pretty basic.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Dec 8, 2017
The poppers were great and I loved the cheese sauce! Be sure not to call it queso or the staff gets offended! I tried the cheese quesadilla and can't complain..I'm not a fan of Mexican but this place is as good as your typical spot

One of my favorite places to both eat and go out to on the island! Great people and great food. Come during restaurant hours to enjoy their cuisine and/or come at night for their drinks. Either way, you'll probably hear some great live music!
I don't think I've ever eaten the same thing twice here, but I can always count on their great chips and salsa on the house. Most recently, I tried their Bud's burrito, which has three types of meat - chicken, carne asada and carnitas! Hefty helping and delicious to boot! Also comes with beans and rice. I was stuffed, but happy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 10, 2017
Love the food! We were lucky and enjoyed the music of "Mid Life Crisis" band! The music was fabulous! The best part of the night! The guy playing the mandolin was so talented!
We enjoyed out green chile and pork enchiladas and gigantic margueritas.
Our server was attentive and cute. I wish I took down her name. This is an excellent restaurant choice in Coronado. We will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 2, 2014
Very slow service. And it was this rainy Friday and the huge restaurant practically empty if it wasn't for the people at the bar cheering up the excellent musician singing and playing folk-rock oldies. The music was excellent, the lamps very delusion of grandeur style, but the food was completely forgettable except that chipotle smoky salsa accompanying the home made fresh chips.
Both the host and the server were very nice and smiling, but honestly we were to the point of leaving after waiting for half an hour to get our beers. I repeat the restaurant was almost empty, just a big table wih seating that look like benches gotten from the garage sale of an old church (a point for that detail) filled with what it seemed to me all the local youth of Coronado.
The restaurant itself looks nice, super spacious, big terrace outside and nice bar inside plus many tables, looks more a place to have big group celebrations. Be because of the observed slowness, we opted to share the angus burger which ended up to be the smallest and less tasty of all the ones I have had lately. Well, this is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant but if they offer burgers they should be good. Only good thing about the burger was the salsa as well, with some chipotle in it as well.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
