    About the Business

Our story starts in 1939 in a small coffee shop called Jerry's. Fast forward a few decades, when we changed our name to Clayton's to celebrate our shift to a full-service diner. We revamped our menu with the additions of home-cooked dishes, milkshakes, and smoothies, plus the walk-up taco counter right next door. We kept the nostalgic aspects, though -- from the original horseshoe counter and jukeboxes to the building itself, we represent a little piece of history. Everyone is welcome here, whether you're a tourist from across the world or a local from a couple miles up the road. Our team is more than happy to serve you something classically delicious right here at Clayton's!…

Does this Clayton's take reservations? I'll be visiting Coronado with my son this summer and can not wait to try this place!

      A:

They do not, but they are very efficient. Show up 20 minutes before you want to eat for breakfast, and make sure to order Garbage!

This is probably the best breakfast spot on the island. Everything I have had here has been great. Had the scramble yesterday and it was amazing with great taste. Desserts are great as well
Lots of seating inside and outside
      Customer service is excellent

The grill closes 30 mins before the published closing time. So if you want to eat the actual closing time is 30 mins before the advertised time.

I have a problem with this. Either stay open during hours or don't. You shouldn't have to know the local rules.

      Response:

      We were there last
      Night 4/21/24 at
8:30 and were told we could have desert. The grill was Closed. There were 4 in our Party and instead of a nice hefty dinner tab...we got 2 milkshakes and a piece of Pie...and went home and made
Dinner. We would love to come back but we need the grill to be open so we can eat, or let us know when the grill closes.

We have been eyeing this spot for quite sometime and we finally got to try it this past week.

Our server was Hector and he was great!
The atmosphere of the diner is great! So old fashioned & reminded me of the 50's. Def a time I'd like to visit in the past.

I had the Turkey Bacon Avocado on Sourdough with Crinkle Cut Fries & it was great!

My husband had the Chicken Strips and Crinkle Cut Fries. Also very tasty! The fries were well seasoned and the portions are a great size!

He also had a Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake which was very rich and tasty!

My daughter got to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie as she had just had lunch prior to our visit and it was definitely meant for two!

Well worth the visit and we will be back soon! A new favorite for sure

I often pass by this diner while visiting Coronado but it's always been quite busy. Finally made it in even though it was just for a cup of coffee. The diner itself is quaint with retro bar seating and many nostalgic pieces for decor. The service was friendly and fast. Will definitely make it a point to stop and eat here next time I'm visiting Coronado.

Clayton's is famous and I've always wanted to try it but haven't.

This time, while here for work on NASNI, I stayed on the island for the first time and woke up early and biked here for brekkie before work.

Not too busy on a morning at 8am during the week. We seated ourselves and were immediately greeted by a friendly young server. We told them we had about a half hour and ordered.

Acai bowl, oatmeal bowl, a coffee and a cinnamon roll. All was out within only moments and our check was dropped off for our convenience since we said we were in a hurry.

The acai bowl was gigantic and a great price. Probably the biggest I've ever seen and only $13. The oatmeal was a bit soggy and slimy so not the best. The cinnamon roll was SO good. Warm, soft, epic icing. Omg. The best I've ever had.

Super chill vibe, very friendly, service was stellar and the menu is large

Happy to have finally tried it. Saw several things I'd try next time - like any of the Benedict's. Noms.

He said yelpem 5 strs dad. Lol. Our service was also excellent. We had multiple asking if we were okay or needed anything. Excellent team work. We would definitely go back. Probably tomorrow.

Great place for a quick stop-and-eat. The place was packed indoors, but outside had a take-out option from which individuals could find a table and eat outside. The service was average--somewhat slow due to the amount of customers. However, portions are relatively large, and there was a variety of choices to choose from. I would come back again, but be prepared to wait at least 20 min for your sandwich.

Great local business with indoor and outdoor seating. A nice counter inside with a definite 1950s vibe. Service was fast and friendly. Ample portion sizes. I had the vegetable / egg croissant sandwich. Well cooked eggs, good amount of veg, nice portion of avocado. Breakfast potatoes were different, thin / au gratin sliced potatoes - little on the firm side, but still tasty after a little bit of added salt and pepper.

This was bumped to a 4 star based on the slice of home made coconut cream pie I got to go. Crust was thick, good crisp. Custard was perfect, good amount of coconut. I should have gotten two slices!

A cute local diner right on Orange/75 in downtown Coronado. I've been here a few times when I had family visiting in town and with my husband. He is stationed on the Navy base and it's on the way home from work. I stopped here on a Thursday afternoon in January and was able to walk right into the u shaped counter bar seating. For a breakfast combo, I paid a reasonable $20 for my meal and $25 with tip. Overall if you want classic diner style breakfast/brunch and coffee, give this place a try! They have so many sweet treats and occasional seasonal specials.

This review if for their to-go coffee! Make your way around to the right side of the building and you'll find where to place to-go orders. The inside of the diner is so cute and retro, but we just came for a quick pick-me-up. I got their matcha chai with a quarter sweetness and it was so good.

My friend got their pumpkin spice latte, and at first it was WAY too sweet. The syrup at the bottom wasn't dissolved at all. But, they kindly remade the order and it was perfect. I would definitely recommend getting reduced sweetness.
