Event Description:

At Coronado Playhouse Saturday, November 14, 2015, 3pm–6pm Sunday, November 15, 2015, 5pm–9pm Callbacks: By invitation Thursday, November 19, 2015, 6pm – 10pm Production Dates/Times: January 29 – March 6, 2016 Thursday – Saturday at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm To Reserve Your Audition Time: E-mail to audition@coronadoplayhouse.com with your name and telephone number and picture/resume (if available) attached. Or call Box Office at (619) 435-4856. Please put “SUGAR” in subject when E-mailing. Appointments will be scheduled in five-minute increments. Where: Coronado Playhouse, 1835 Strand Way, Coronado 92118. Directions can be found on the website: http://www.coronadoplayhouse.com Audition Details: • For all roles: Prepare a one minute song that best shows your vocal range. Traditional musical comedy preferred. Bring sheet music in correct key or CD/tape. An accompanist will be provided. If you choose to use a CD/tape, please have it CUED. Please no a cappella. • Bring a photo/headshot and resume (if available). • Bring your calendar through March 6, 2016; all conflicts will be required to be listed on audition form. Rehearsals will begin late November. • Non-Equity production. Play description: The plot concerns Joe and Jerry, unemployed musicians in 1929 Chicago, who inadvertently witness a gangland shootout and have to run for their lives. The only way out of town they can find is to shave their legs, put on wigs, and join an all-female band heading for Miami. Joe/Josephine soon falls in love with the gorgeous blonde singer, Sugar. Meanwhile, Jerry/Daphne tries to avoid the advances from millionaire Osgood Fielding. Cast List and Breakdown: SUGAR KANE – (Lead) Alto/Mezzo – Young female adult. A gorgeous blonde featured singer with the traveling girl band. Plays ukulele. JOE (JOSEPHINE) – (Lead) Tenor/Baritone – Young male adult, Unemployed saxophone player. JERRY (DAPHNE) – (Lead) Tenor/Baritone – Young male adult. Unemployed bass player. SPATS PALAZZO – (Major Support) Baritone – Male. A dapper tap-dancing gangland boss. SIR OSGOOD FIELDING – (Major Support) Baritone – Male. A mature millionaire. SWEET SUE – (Major Support) Alto – Female. Leader of Society Syncopators, an all-girl band. BIENSTOCK – Male. Band manger, nervous wreck. KNUCKLES NORTON – Male. Boss of rival gang. CAB DRIVER – Male. Driver in Chicago. TRAIN CONDUCTOR – Male. Conductor on the Dixie Flyer. BELLBOY – Male. Works at Seminole Ritz in Miami Florida (Hotel Del). TRAIN ANNOUNCER – Male. Voice in Chicago train station. MUSICIANS CONTRACTOR – Chicago union contractor. DUDE – A member of Spats Palazzo gang. FIRST HOOD – A member of Knuckles gang. SECOND HOOD – A member of Knuckles gang. REPORTER – From Chicago news media. FIRST HENCHMAN – A member of Spats Palazzo gang.
