Event Description:
Coronado Playhouse presents TARTUFFE by Moliere in a translation by Ranjit Bolt DATES: July 24-August 16, 2015 TIMES: Thursday-Saturday 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The summer tradition continues at Coronado Playhouse, the Community's Theatre, with a free offering of French playwright Moliere's classic comedy. Tartuffe is a hilarious farce first banned in Paris in 1667 because of its cutting political and religious satire. Often subtitled, The Hypocrite, this French masterpiece centers on the title character who is an imposter invited into the home of a wealthy French family. Moliere intertwines a series of comical situations and unlikely events punctuated with betrayal, seduction and religious grandiosity. The nobleman, Orgon, is deceived by Tartuffe who manipulates his host into believing he is a saintly devout man of religious faith. Blinded by the deception, Orgon sacrifices the well being of his wife and children in order to please his visitor. The sordid story reaches a climax with a disinherited son, a pending arranged marriage and the potential seduction of Orgon's wife. In the end, good triumphs over evil and harmony is restored to the chaotic household. The production team includes Tom Haine (director), Chad Oakley(assistant director), Chris Powell (producer) and Patricia Lynch (text advisor). The cast features Mark Petrich (Tartuffe), Steve Jensen (Orgon), JoDarlene (MME Pernelle), Ray Lynch (Cleante), Kendra Truett (Elmire), Andrea Acuna (Marianne), Braulio Ramirez (Valere), Kyle Lord (Damis), Vani Neel (Dorine), Kellen Hoku Gold (Laurent), Samantha Schmidt (M. Loyal), Eric Hedberg (King's Officer), Patty Fay (Flipote) TICKETS: Free to the public with reservations required through our website. A limit of 6 tickets for person.
