Event Description:
Preservation Month in May is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Three Coronado organizations are co-sponsoring a free symposium on May 28, designed to foster preservation across the City. Coronado's Historic Resource Commission, the Coronado Historical Association, and Coronado MainStreet will host a free, two-hour symposium with guest speakers and staff from the City, CHA and MainStreet. This annual event showcases Coronado's architectural gems, educates attendees on the benefits of preservation in our community and assists those interested in historic designation of their properties. Attendees will learn about the City handbook on applying for historic designation and hear about many already-designated properties in Coronado. This symposium is given in memory of Nancye Splinter, a local preservationist dedicated to providing education in our community. Presenters include: Doug St. Denis and Chris Ackerman, A.I.A., architects and historic preservation specialists; and Tricia Olsen, Associate Planner and staff member of the Historic Resource Commission, City of Coronado. The symposium will take place in the Lecture Hall at the Coronado Museum of History & Art on Wednesday evening, May 28, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Reservations are not required for this free event, but it is always a good idea to come a bit early to ensure the best seating. Please call visit www.coronadohistory.org or call (619) 435-7242 for more information.
